GPO & WEP Survey

Are you affected by the GPO and WEP? This survey will help determine which members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) are impacted by the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). After conducting the GPO/WEP Summit in Washington, D.C. in March, TRTA and other participants learned that more factual information is needed to help advance this issue. These facts, and your personal stories about how GPO/WEP are impacting you, are valuable to TRTA as we continue to meet with Congressional members on how these provisions affect their constituents.

You may be exempt from the GPO if you were retired prior to 12-31-1982, if you met the qualifications of retirement under the GPO loophole that close in 2004, or if you have worked in a dual-paying school district (TRS and Social Security) for 60 consecutive months prior to retirement. WEP does not affect you if you were eligible to retire prior to December 1985 or have 30 years of substantial Social Security earnings.
