Tim Lee

TRTA Executive Director

Mr. Tim Lee is the 5th Executive Director in TRTA history. He joined the TRTA team on Sept. 23, 2004.

"It is my great privilege and honor to serve as Executive Director of the Texas Retired Teachers Association," Tim often tells state education retirees.  "I understand the importance of what this organization is trying to do and that TRTA efforts do make a difference for state education retirees," Lee says.

Tim is originally from Springfield, Illinois where he held the Executive Director's post for six years at the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA). Tim started at IRTA on the legislative staff and moved up to IRTA's Assistant Executive Director during his first two years with the organization. Now IRTA is the sixth largest retired educator organization in the country, and experienced continued membership growth during his 8 years with the association.

Tim is very informed on issues impacting public pension funds, state sponsored health insurance programs, and federal issues such as the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). Tim now directs TRTA's day-to-day operations and is TRTA's chief lobbyist and media spokesperson.  He is recognized nationally for his service to protect public pension plans and improve education retiree benefits.  An energetic speaker who loves to involve the audience and impart some of his enthusiasm on these issues, Tim enjoys speaking to the members about what is going on with their retirement benefits.  "I love my job!  It is very exciting and the work that we do at TRTA has a real and positive impact on our membership and all state education retirees," says Lee.

Tim has a Bachelor's of Science in Political Science and History from the Illinois State University, graduating with honors, Magna cum Laude. He also served as an Illinois Legislative Intern. Tim furthered his post-graduate educational studies at the University of Illinois at Springfield

Tim and his wife Nichol also have a full-time family life with their twins Carter and Grace (4-30-03), Ethan (3-31-2005) and their newest arrival Ryan David (11-09).
