2010-2011

The Public Relations Committee shall coordinate the Children's Book Project. The Committee shall develop methods of promoting the goals, objectives, and ideals of TRTA to other education groups and to the general public.

Duties

The TRTA State Public Relations Committee Chairman duties:
*1. Assimilates and gathers information of interest to retired school and higher education personnel and send it to the District Public Relations Committee Chairmen.

*2. Provides a listing of all daily and weekly newspapers to District Public Relations Committee Chairmen.
*3. Prepares sample news releases for Districts to use for their Fall Conventions and Spring Leadership Training Conferences.
*4. Serves as presenter to train District and Local Unit counterparts at the TRTA Convention.
*5. Directs TRTA State Public Relations Committee members to dissimilate and gather materials to the District Second Vice–President/Public Relations Chairmen on an ongoing basis.

The TRTA District Public Relations Committee Chairmen duties:
*1. Send information received from the TRTA Public Relations Chairman to the Local Unit Public Relations Committee Chairmen in the District.
*2. Gather information of interest to retired school and higher education personnel and send it to the Local Unit Chairmen.
*3. Review lists of newspapers and prepare a listing of newspapers serving the District for Local Unit Public Relations Committee Chairmen.
*4. Prepare press releases covering District/TRTA events.
*5. Serve as presenter of the Local Unit Public Relations training at the District Spring Leadership Conference.
*6. Attend the state Convention Second Vice–President Leadership Training Session.

The TRTA Local Unit Public Relations Committee Chairmen duties:
*1. Inform school retirees, school employees, and legislators about TRTA.
*2. Make certain that the general public is made aware that the Local Units exists.
*3. Promotes understanding of the TRTA purpose and accomplishments in the local community.
*4. Promote the Local Unit to targeted audiences.
*5. Promote good media coverage of meetings and activities.
*6. Establish good, working relationships with the local press and media through personal visits and/or contacts.
*7. Write or assist in publishing timely newsletter to members.
*8. Prepare press releases of special events.
*9. Be available to supervise or coordinate a specific public relations effort.
*10 Place Legislative Update and TRTA News Bulletin’s in local schools with the approval of the superintendent.
*11. Promote both the "Student to Student" and Children’s Book Drives.
*12. Attend the District Spring Leadership Second Vice–President/Public Relations Leadership Training Session.
