TRTA Update on Proposed Supplemental Payment

Supplemental Payment Update

TRTA is still pressing forward to ensure you receive a supplemental payment this session.

I have received many emails about this issue and I understand both the financial hurt that retirees are suffering, as well as the concerns many TRTA members have that the Legislature is not proposing a higher level of supplemental payment than the $500 cap.

TRTA’s primary objective at this late hour in session is to ensure that retirees are eligible to receive some financial relief (pending what we believe should be a favorable opinion by the Attorney General) through the already agreed to state budget process. The TRS fund does need a higher appropriation to help get it back to a level of actuarial soundness, but thousands of public education retirees are in need of this supplemental payment.

Your help in achieving this goal is appreciated. Please call your Representative tomorrow at 1.888.674.3788 and ask them to support a supplemental payment to retired education employees.

This issue is continuing to develop as TRTA and your Texas House members are working for you. I do hope to have a more complete and detailed update tomorrow. Your faithful dedication to TRTA efforts is greatly appreciated!

Thank You,

Tim Lee
