Legislative Update No. 63, Session 80
By Tim Lee, Executive DirectorPrinter Friendly ||| Print as PDF

July 4, 2007

Happy Independence Day

On behalf of the TRTA Board of Directors and the TRTA Staff, I want to wish all of you a very happy Fourth of July.  I also want to thank all of you that have served this country in the armed forces.  The debt of gratitude that we owe our military men and women can never be repaid.  It is also important to thank those of you who served in our public schools, junior colleges, higher education, and/or in the public sector.  All of you have played an important part in what makes this the best country in the world.  Thank you for your public service.

TRTA will reopen its office tomorrow.  Have a wonderful holiday and God Bless America.

Important Information

  • It’s membership renewal/recruitment time.  TRTA has mailed over 16,000 membership renewals to annual members.  If you are or have been a TRTA member, please consider renewing your membership with TRTA and your local unit.  Contact TRTA with any questions you may have regarding your membership.

  • In the next few weeks, TRTA will mail a membership invitation to over 100,000 non-members.  TRTA is hoping your successful legislative work this year will encourage others to join TRTA.  Talk to your friends and colleagues and ask them to become a part of this growing grassroots organization.

  • The latest TRTA news bulletin is rolling off the presses! This issue is not only full of legislative information, but will also debut a revised look that will hopefully be more eye-catching and enjoyable.  The TRTA news bulletin will now be called The Voice.  Look for it coming to your mailbox very soon.

  • TRTA is updating its printed and web materials on the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision.  TRTA expects the House Subcommittee on Social Security to hold hearings on this issue very soon.  Updates on TRTA’s efforts to repeal the GPO and the WEP will be posted as the issue moves forward.

  • TRTA is still pursuing a bill signing ceremony with Governor Perry for SB 1846.

  • The TRS Board of Trustees will meet this month and discuss investment policies and other important issues.  TRTA will bring you updates on those meetings, as well.

Pleas contact Tim Lee at 1.800.880.1650 or by email to tim@trta.org with any questions you may have.
